Hi folks,
This week we finished up the 50 foot race lab we began last week. I taught the students how to calculate their speeds and accelerations using the data they collected last week. We also spent some time with a computer simulation trying to get the hang of position, velocity and acceleration graphs.
Homework due 9/28 is to:

1. Using your data (or choosing someone else if you have no data) calculate the velocity for each 10 foot section of the race. (Many of you finished this in class.)
2. Using your data (or choosing someone else if you have no data) calculate the acceleration for each 10 foot section of the race. (Many of you finished this in class.)
3. Using someone else’s data, calculate the velocity for each 10 foot section of the race.
4. Using someone else's data, calculate the acceleration for each 10 foot section of the race.
5. Create a distance, a velocity, and an acceleration graph (3 different graphs). Graph your data and the data of the other runner on each graph. (In other words, each graph should have a line representing you and the other runner.)
6. Of the two of you, which runner had the greatest acceleration over any 10 ft. portion of the race?
7. Which of you would have won if you were racing against each other?
8. What part of the race did you have the greatest acceleration?
9. Was your acceleration ever negative?
10. What part of the race was your greatest speed?
11. Using the slope of your graph, predict what speed you would have reached if you could have maintained your initial acceleration (the acceleration for the first 10 feet) for the entire 50 feet of the race.
