Additional homework for Physics due 11/2
Hi folks,
I'm adding a bit of homework so that you guys can get some practice with these pesky "river problems". Once you get the hang of them they are pretty simple but it takes a while to get them straight. The best way to get the hang of them is to do a bunch so….here you go!

10/26 Physics update and homework due 11/2
Hi folks,
Today we began our venture into Newton's Laws. To be honest, everything we've been working with so far has led up to this. Velocity, acceleration, vectors, linear motion has all been leading up to us gaining a strong understanding of Newton's three laws of motion. Today we began with Newton's first law, an object in motion stays in motion and an object at rest stays at rest unless a force acts against them.
Homework for this week is to:
Read pgs. 43-55
Review Questions pg. 56 & 57 #'s 1-20

10/19 Physics update and homework due 10/26
Hi folks,
Today we took a deeper look at vectors and vector math.
We also did a fairly mathematically intense lab where the students had to find velocities and accelerations of a lego catapult.
For homework this week:
If you haven't already, finish the lab we did today in class. I need to see the:
Horizontal Velocity
Vertical Velocity
Resultant Velocity
Horizontal Acceleration
Vertical Acceleration
Resultant Acc
Time of the throw is .1 seconds.

HS Physics class 10/12 and homework due 10/19
Hi folks,
Today we spent a bunch of time going over the formulas and doing problems to get the hang of the math that's associated with the topics we've been covering so far.
Homework for this week is to:
Read pgs. 28 - 39 in the text book.
Do "Plug and Chug" questions on page 41 #'s 1-5
Do all 6 of the "Think and Solve" questions on page 42 of the Conceptual Physics book.
I"ll send an answer sheet tomorrow.

10/5 Physics update and homework due 10/12
Hi folks,
Today we spent a bit more time with a few more gravity concepts and we also touched on our next topic, projectile motion.
Homework due next week:
Review questions page 26 #'s 15 - 25
Do Plug and Chug on page 26-27 #'s 1-8
Fwd: Recording of 10/5 Physics Class - More Gravity and intro to Projectile Motion

Answer key for the plug and chug problems on page 26 and 27
Plug and Chug
1. s=d/t
so s = 140/5
s = 28km/h
2. a. s= d/t
so s = 4/.5;
s = 8km/h
Where did .5 come from? It's half of an hour and we are calculating in km/h.
2. b. s = d/t
so 8 = d/1
8 = d
3. a = v/t
a = 100/10
a = 10 km/h/s
4. v=at
v = 2m/s/s X 10s
v = 20 m/s
5. v = at
v = 5m/s/s x 3 s
v = 15 m/s
6. v=a
v= 10m/s/s x 1.5
v = 15
7. Instant speed v = at
v = 10m/s/s x 6 s
v = 60 m/s
Where did 10 m/s/s come from? That's the acceleration of the object due to gravity.
Average Speed
If 60 m/s is the final speed and 0 is the starting speed then
(60 + 0)/2 = 30 m/s To find the average I've added the speeds and divided by the number of data points I used, in this case, two data points.
Distance Fallen
d=1/2at^2
d = 1/2 10 (6)^2
d= 5 x 36
d = 180
8. Speed
v=at
v= 10 x 8
v = 80
Distance fallen
d=1/2at^2
d=1/2 x 10 x (8)^2
d = 5 x 64
d = 320
1. s=d/t
so s = 140/5
s = 28km/h
2. a. s= d/t
so s = 4/.5;
s = 8km/h
